    What makes it fun

Villa Finale Museum and Gardens is a place overflowing with history and the passion to preserve it. The Villa Finale is the last house a part of the historic King William neighborhood in the heart of San Antonio along the museum reach area of the River Walk. Walter Nold Mathis is responsible for the preservation of this house and played an incredibly important role in the revitalization of the entire neighborhood. The home with have your draw dropping while you analyze the intricate architecture, the beautiful arches and the positively magnificent landscaping and gardens. The epitome of fancy and elegance. Feel like royalty as you walk through the surrounding grounds and imagine yourselves living in such a palace.

This is a great gem in the King William district of San Antonio. If you enjoy history and home tours this is worth it. Had a wonderful guide and there was plenty of parking on the street. It’s the only home in Texas on the National Register of Historic Homes.

Get here early to secure a tour. Summer hour tours end at 2:30. I don't know if you can explore the house on your own. Some of the other reviews stated there were self guides tours though. I arrived at 2:40 and missed the last tour and was not allowed to go inside. The curator was a little unpleasant as she informed us about the "summer hours". A kind of "to bad to sad your late" attitude. You can park on the street which is mostly shaded by giant trees. Located in a beautiful area, any one of the scores of homes we passed could have been the museum. We were reluctantly allowed to explore the grounds around the grounds around the house, but were informed that the property would be "shut down" at 3. Despite the unwelcome greetings, we are planning on returning to make sure we can see the entire estate. After we explored the grounds, we made our way to the river walk directly behind the house. A turn to the right leads you to a damn which was worth exploring. After we exited the damn, we activated some Veo scooters and made our way back to our vehicle.

Affordale self guided tour of an amazing home that is stuffed to the brim with beautiful artifacts ranging from ths nepolionic Era to late 1900's western pieces. Staff is attentive and knowledgeable and will help you contact the property historian if you have questions about anything they are not familiar with.

Super cool museum, but my daughter was disappointed since she associates museums with dinosaurs & since there were no dinosaurs in this museum she was not impressed 😆 but the rest of us liked it. I definitely would not go if I had younger kiddos. My youngest is 6 & it was so hard for her not to touch but she did great. There are a ton breakable items.

Fascinating 1876 home beautifully restored and filled to the brim with European antiques owned by civic leader and historic preservationist Walter Nold Mathis. Very knowledgeable tour guides and beautifully decorated around the holidays, will definitely return as King William District is a beautiful destination!

Toured this home on a Tuesday, early in the afternoon. Admission fee was reasonable, and the workers operating the home were very attentive and knowledgeable. Each room has an information board with historical tidbits on different artifacts and how the rooms were used throughout its history. I only gave it one star since the other historical home is only open on Saturdays. Nonetheless, it was time worth spent.

1/14/2020 Wed. 1:24pm.. This place is a five bed room house, with beautiful grounds, exterior is just beautiful! Mr Mathis was a great collector of fine art and sculpture and of Napoleon most of that is in the first floor some on the other floors! The collection is seriously big from serious paintings to table settings, to letter openers, to his own death mask is on display to even the St. Frances was made into a very gorgeous lamp and renamed it San Antonio for our city! Gayle was our tour guide, I could have asked her so much and well she would have had all the answers! She was very informative and if time had allowed she would have given us more stories, this is a fascinating house and the man behind this home is just as fascinating!! Plus much more...
