My friend and I attended the Paranormal fair yesterday and had an okay time. The vendors and staff members were pleasant and not pushy in the least bit. The tour of the grounds and house was terrific. The guests speakers were a little dry; perhaps audience participation would’ve livened up the presentations a bit. One of the guests speakers was hard to understand because he was holding the mike right onto his lips therefore muffling any sound he made.
There was also a purported psychic who was conducting one of the most embarrassing readings I've ever witnessed. Her hands were fluttering about as if she were giving a massage to an unknown entity and her guesses were really bad; the poor woman who was the recipient of the reading was standing there trying to help out the psychic who could not discern any details about a dead relative from the woman. Laughable and sad at the same time.
For the not so bargain price of $75 I expected more. A goody bag at the door, a free drink and more of a festival rather than a somber mood. True the heat didn't help but perhaps holding the fair in October would help because the weather can be cooler. This is Texas but with a little planning, perhaps the worst of the Texas heat can be avoided.
Anther issue my friend and I had about the fair was the fact that the place could’ve used a tidying up. Removing the wasp nests is recommended and maybe NOT scheduling a power washing of the exterior of the house on the day of the event would have been a better idea. In fact the ladders that were positioned in the front of the house could be considered hazardous and therefore a liability should one or all three ladders collapse thereby causing bodily injuries.
But overall the place has potential to be better. Inviting more vendors and guest speakers as well as including musicians and having games could make it a much better attraction for a wider audience. A strong suggestion to the owners: go visit the Haunted Magnolia Hotel in Seguin and check out a true class act. The owners of that fine establishment have made a real niche in the world of haunted sites in Texas; they've poured their heart and soul to turn a once dilapidated building into a real showstopper. And it helps that the Erin Ghedi is a real medium and her readings are right on point.
