Elmendorf Lake Park in San Antonio is a lovely and well-rounded destination for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. The park features a beautiful lake perfect for fishing, with a nice fishing pier that I’m definitely planning to try on my next visit. The walking trails are well-maintained and offer a peaceful environment for a stroll, while ample seating and BBQ areas provide ideal spots for relaxing or enjoying a picnic. I did talk to some people fishing under the bridge and they said they were catching bass. I did inquire about walking in the area past the bridge away from the college campus that is across from the lake. A couple people said to be careful walking in that direction on the other side of I believe commerce as they said it gets sketchy.
The park also offers a splash pad that operates from May to October, making it a great family-friendly attraction during the warmer months. During summer, the pool is open for swimming, and there is also a playground for kids to enjoy.
One of the things I appreciated most was the abundance of parking, which makes it easy to visit any time. I brought my dog along on leash for a walk and, while I had a great time, there were several large stray dogs that approached us midway through the walk. Fortunately, there were trail stewards nearby, which gave me peace of mind. They ensured the situation was handled, and I didn't feel unsafe, even though I was initially concerned about my dog possibly being attacked.
Overall, Elmendorf Lake Park is a fantastic spot for walking, fishing, family gatherings, and relaxation. The park’s amenities and scenic environment make it a wonderful place to visit, and I’ll definitely be returning to try out the fishing.
