Date Night at King William Wine Co in the Blue Star Art Complex.
As a wine lover, I’ve been wanting to check this restaurant out for a while now, and after it was named one of San Antonio Magazine’s Best New Restaurants, we finally scheduled it for date night.
Reservations were easy to make online and after walking the “red carpet” entrance, we were seated by the friendly staff. I ordered the Seasonal Table, a curated five course meal, and my husband the Côte de Buf Rôtie, or a Herb-Crusted Ribeye Roast. We love French food which was excellent, but the show stopper was its large and very thoughtful wine selection.
The restaurant has over 170 selection of wines and counting, each hand selected chosen by the owners, but also has a full-service bar available with non-alcoholic options for those who don’t drink. During our visit, we saw something called the “Wine Bible”. We asked one of the owners, Juan—aka “The Storyteller” as rightfully displayed on his chef coat—what it was. He showed us a few of the hundreds of pages of each wine the restaurant serves along with detailed information and pairings. The servers apparently get to try all of the wine in the event they are asked for recommendations. Talk about a job perk! It’s a must- try location for wine lovers, without having to leave the country for a variety of international wine.
After dinner, we walked around the trendy Blue Star Art Complex and the river in the King William District which added to the overall experience for us (and help settle the large meal). Spring and Summer food menu included in the post. The restaurant also features a High Tea Experience that we look forward to checking out.
