    What makes it fun

Our wetland environment is one of the last crucial stopping grounds before the Texas Coast, which is where 98.5% of long-distance migratory bird species in the United States pass through. Many of these birds are about to fly for hours or days over the ocean, and our habitat is one of the last critical stopover grounds before the Texas Coast. In addition to being one of the top locations in San Antonio for birdwatching, we also welcome visitors interested in learning more about the natural world and conservation efforts. Visit us to learn more about our ecosystem, take a stroll through our native gardens, enroll in a class or tour, become a volunteer, or contribute to our education and conservation initiatives. No matter how old you are or what your hobbies are, we have a means to help link you to the wild and beautiful natural place where we dwell, which is just far enough south of the city to make you forget about the stresses of everyday life.

Great friendly staff. Audubon members enter free but general public fee is minimal.

The place is great for birding, so many species can be found. Become a member and get free admission, or pay a nominal fee for a day pass, it's worth it.

Quite an interesting place to visit in San Antonio. You'll have no regrets if you're searching for egrets. We saw a lot of them in the basins. The basins start off dry, then boggy, and the full of water. I would not recommend the walking trail for birding. If you want to see egrets and water fowl. Take binoculars or a camera with a telephoto lens.

Great place to bird/wildlife watch. Excellent access for less mobile individuals (by car, the pathways are dirt/gravel). Only thing is DO NOT FORGET THE BUG SPRAY! The mosquitoes will straight eat you alive! The access to such a variety of bird especially during migration seasons is totally worth it. Be prepared though they charge $5/person for entry.
